Ex-Belgium police chief suspended on sex charge

BRUSSELS – Belgian newspapers are reporting that the former Belgian national police chief has been suspended from his new job after

being indicted for attempted rape.

The papers say 56-year-old Fernand Koekelberg was indicted Thursday. His successor as commissioner-general of the federal police, Paul van Thielen, said in a statement Friday the suspension reflected no judgment on Koekelberg’s guilt or innocence.
